A Focus Group Study to Explore Risky Ridership among Young Motorcyclists in Manipal, India

Road crash injuries have emerged as a significant public health issue in many low and middle-income countries recent years. In India, motorized two-wheelers comprise 70% of the vehicle population are considered most vulnerable road users. injury is common among young-aged leading to premature deaths. It essential understand risky riding behaviors develop accurate, evidence-based risk reduction programmes that fit target population’s characteristics intervention setting. The current study aims improve understanding typical motorcycle crashes young riders primarily focusing on prevalence role behaviors. Five focus group discussions with eight ten participants each (N = 35) were conducted Manipal, Karnataka state Southwestern India. A thematic analysis was completed using MAXQDA software identify, analyze, report themes within data. Speeding, under influence alcohol, poor maintenance motorcycles indicated causes crashes. Furthermore, mobile phones while riding, violations traffic rules, helmet non-use identified other riders. Future research can be taken up settings for population.
